What began as an initiative to bring together foreign residents in the country is rapidly becoming a renowned event that gathers a large number of people who not only play golf, but also share the best of the local culture.
“This tournament was intended to make our field and facilities known to the large community of expatriates living in Panama. It was so well received that we are already transforming it into a league, where approximately 120 players are playing each date”. Álvaro Venegas, General Manager of Buenaventura Golf Club explains how this tournament was born.
It should be noted that the Buenaventura Golf Course was designed by Nicklaus Design taking care of every detail, from its undulating fairways, white sand traps, water hazards and beautiful Corotú trees perfectly distributed throughout the landscape, seeking to offer a unique golf experience in Buenaventura.
The Expat Golf League is played in an individual Stableford mode which is one of the 10 modalities to play golf. This type is undoubtedly the most used in the world of amateur golf. Additionally, the tournament has a series of 5 rounds where all participants have the option to play the final but only golfers who have competed in 2 previous rounds are eligible to win the championship.
“This tournament is an experience in every sense. Sports, gastronomy and music. The tournament also seeks to add a culinary experience to the community with a variety of options as has always characterized Buenaventura. Different soft drinks, drinks and cocktails liven up the different palates of summer. The musical factor is not far behind; the tournament has had the participation of renowned artists such as Alex Durán. Additionally, various sponsors have supported the event, companies such as Lina Corporations, Air Europa and Buenaventura Rentals”, said Venegas.
This tournament is definitely an opportunity to connect sport, community and well-being with a Buenaventura-style experience where golf enthusiasts can enjoy playing on a course that has hosted multiple national and international tournaments such as the PGA Latin America.
