The Scarlett Martínez International Airport located in Río Hato, province of Coclé, built in 1942 by the United States, was the first international airport in Panama until the construction of the Tocumen International Airport in 1947. Originally it was used as a air force base for the United States and as an auxiliary airstrip until the 1990s.
The reopening of the airport was in 2013 with its current name after the period it was administered by the United States. It has an air terminal with a runway of 2,440 meters long. The building has the capacity to serve two aircrafts for an estimated flow of about 600 incoming and outgoing passengers.
The facilities of the Scarlett Martínez International Airport include security, immigration, customs, a large parking area and a tunnel that allows expedited transit through the Pan-American highway.
